Where history lives.
The Portrait Moving Event

The portraits of New Jersey’s five signers of the Declaration of Independence—Abraham Clark, John Hart, Francis Hopkinson, Richard Stockton, and John Witherspoon—were donated to the Borough by the Women’s Clubs of the Haddon Fortnightly in 1976. For decades, they have hung in the Borough Hall auditorium.

To kick off Haddonfield’s Semiquincentennial celebrations, volunteers from The Haddon Fortnightly carried the portraits across Kings Highway on January 7, dressed in colonial attire.
The group paused in front of the historic Indian King Tavern for photos, where they were greeted by members of the Golden Kazoo Band from the Mabel Kay Senior Center.

The procession then continued to The Haddon Fortnightly, where the portraits will be displayed throughout the nation’s 250th anniversary commemorations.
Haddonfield Public Library’s “Portrait Talks”
Haddonfield youth researched and produced artificial intelligence-generated clips featuring the signers of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey. These portraits were on display at Borough Hall and have been moved to the Haddon Fortnightly Building.
